A fine quality writing table, circa 1870
The manufacture attributed to Jackson and Graham 1840-1885
Height 73cm (29")
Width 121cm (48")
Depth 60cm (24")
£9,500
The leather inset top is veneered in amboyna wood, the rest of the the table is veneered in thuya wood with ebony and ivory inlay and cross banded with palm wood. The freize hides a single drawer.
The intricate design of the paterae is a trade mark of the London firm of Jackson & Graham, as is the use of precious and exotic veneers.
It is unclear who was responsible for the design of this piece. Jackson & Graham are known to manufacture the furniture designs of Robert Lormier, Bruce Talbert, Charles Eastlake and Owen Jones.
An almost identical example was sold by Mallett of New Bond Street, London in 1998 as part of a group of three pieces of furniture by Jackson & Graham and Owen Jones.
