Hugh Birkett favoured the use of multi-sided construction, whether it be for 'timber samples' boxes, wall clock or side cabinets. Various multi-sided 'timber samples' boxes are in the collection of Cheltenham Museum and Art Gallery.

The use of a contemporary battery driven movement is common with wall clocks by Hugh Birkett, see the Bonhams sale of his estate, on 17th September 2002 in Oxford, for examples.
