George Jack designed a carved table with a scalloped top that was exhibited at the arts and crafts exhibition of 1889, this table shares numerous design features with our example. Features such as the shape of the frieze, the octagonal form of the legs with cylindrical feet and the unusual moulding to the top.
Born in New York, in 1860 he came to Glasgow aged 5 after the sudden death of his father. From 1880 he worked in the architectural office of Phillip Webb, then in 1890 he became the chief furniture designer for Morris & Co.
